Time for Sophistique Noirs monthly theme post. It was two years ago the same theme was announced. Back then, I posted a photo with my ski jacket, this time will be all about winter boots.
For a shoe addict, the demands for winter boots are high. They must not brake after only one season, they have to be high quality, warm and comfortable enough for long walks. Of course a shoe addict need them to be nice looking.
Here's a photo of my not so stylish winterboots and my winter pants, out in the woods for a walk.
These were bought 8 years ago, and have been worn every cold winter since. These are the shoes I put on when the temperature reach below -15 C and if there will be long walks or standing by the ice rink to watch a bandy game (my sons plays bandy).
Along with these ugly but practical boots, I always had another more stylish pair of boots to wear to work or for running errands in town. But those shoes always breake before the winter season is over. Why is it so hard to find good shoes that stays more than one season??
I decided to try an army surplus store called Garderoben to buy a pair of army boots, and found these, and English brand called Invader.
I wrote a mail and asked specifically how the sizes were, but recieved a blurry answer. I ordered them in my size and hoped that they would be wide enough for a pair of thicker socks. I waited 3 weeks for the boots to arrive and was very please with how they looked. But they were far too small. They were sent back with a note that I would like to have one size bigger. I have waited over a month now and have written a mail without getting a reply. I have bought fabrics and clothes from that store before and got fast delivery, so this is the first time it fails. I still hope that they will arrive soon.
All my other boots have heels and it's impossible to walk in them as the weather is now.
Talking about heels, I found these on our local thriftstore the other week. They have only been used once so they were in mint condition. I couldn't resist even if I have another two pair of pointy ankle lenght boots the price was only 1€. The heels are tiny stilettos so I'll have to wait for spring to use these.
Do you have troubles in finding good quality shoes for your everyday use?
Oooh I love those last boots, but I couldn't walk in the stiletto heels and I couldn't jam my heels into those narrow toes! It would be a case of cutting off my toes, like one of Cinderella's sisters! :P
SvaraRaderaNot sure how much money you are willing to spend, but if you can find them on sale somewhere (smartpak equine or dover saddlery, or ebay, or any kind of tack shop (horse store) Ariat makes boots that look similar to those invaders- they are traditional english paddock boots, but they also make a winter model with thinsulate and they are fairly warm. They are also pretty comfortable because the women who created the company used to work for Rebok making athletic shoes. I have often found them for half price on clearance, and they are good quality.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to wait a little longer to see if a pair of a size bigger will arrive.
RaderaKängorna längst ner...SÅ snygga!!!
SvaraRaderaMen jag hade inte kunnat gå ens en meter med sådana klackar...
Synd att det krånglar med den där butiken,
som jag för övrigt inte ens hört talas om.
Kram, Jenny
I think snow can esaily ruin any shoes quickly, so unless one spends lots of money in real skin footwear (which is something I don´t really like, the real skin, I mean) they don´t resist a long time... I hate that, damn! Hahaha :p
SvaraRaderaMy last but one pair of work boots only lasted a few months before they started to leak when I was on damp or wet lawns for a couple of hours or more, so I had to replace them though they were still in good condition so I use them for clubbing now.
SvaraRaderaSturdy boots are perfect for clubbing :)
RaderaGreat find on the pointy boots! I have the requisite pair of ugly-but-warm snow boots. :) For everyday footwear, when I'm walking on sidewalks or parking lots, I usually go with thick-soled New Rocks. They're expensive but they have lasted multiple years so far.
SvaraRaderaMaybe I should save my money for a pair of New Rocks then. :)
RaderaAh, combat boots for winter...I love combat boots, but the freaking steel toe can get so goddamn cold in the snow...If you want to stick with the style, I do recomment Dr. Martens', those boots are awesome. :)
SvaraRaderaI have a pair of furry boots I've been wearing for almost three years now and they're still in a near perfect condition, they're comfy and warm, but that's about it...I've been trying to find another pair just in case, but since allthe stores are full of platforms and chunky heels, it proved to be a difficult campaign...
I love your witchy heels, by the way! ;)
Oh,how I love your victorian shoes. I have a similar pair, they're not stiletto. Personally, I buy vegan shoes, no leather. But we don't have snow here at all.
SvaraRaderaI love the new stilettos! I have to agree, when the weather becomes freezing and there is ice everywhere, fashion does not matter as much! It is nearly impossible to wear pretty shoes in that sort of weather!
SvaraRaderaI'm on the hunt for a decent pair of warm boots with good grips ... I have a pair of Sorels that are good for snowy walks in the woods but they're useless for town wear - too clompy and heavy. I thought the grips on my new Doc Martens would be ideal but they're actually really treacherous on ice! :D
SvaraRaderaOh, I know the pain of searching for perfect winter boots so well, especially having a child's shoe size. My dream winter boots are knee high Victorian-like boots with small comfortable heel and made of thick leather. Or goth platforms, but nobody makes them in my size :c This year I gave up my style and walk around in ugly sport shoes and even uglier emu boots, that at least are warm and waterproof (:
SvaraRaderaooh, the Invader boots are perfect! I am hoping you will have a happy outcome with the exchange. Perhaps the company is just swamped with a rush of winter orders?
SvaraRaderaI agree with The Insomniac: Doc Martens boots seem to have good, deep tread but the soles are SO SLIPPERY. Too bad, since the quality otherwise cannot be beat.
Best of luck in your ongoing winter boot hunt, and thank you for participating in the February theme! :)
