A Gothic Easter

Oh I guess some of you have seen these easter decorations before but this cabinet in the photo below is new in our kitchen. Its a lavoar/potty cabinet. There is a lid on top were you can put a washing bowl and a cabinet for your water or potty. I will paint it on the inside before I put something in it I can assure you. I got it from free from a friend that bought an old farm. The cabinet was so filthy (found in one of the separate buildings) with some brown red splatter over it, EWW!! Common scrubbing didn't work but Svinto (soaped steelwool).

As my beloved is allergic to anything that sprouts has fur or feathers these twigs will do fine as easter sticks. The twigs were once used for spanking each other as a reminder of Jesus sufferings, weird tradition...But during the 17 hundreds the twigs were decorated, better tradition. These eggs are painted by me and Oskar long ago.

So were do the Gothic comes in... Well here! Our black livingroom will have the gloomier decorations. Mossy twigs, gothic crosses and victorian styled eggs. 

These decorations are made by me years ago. I store the eggs securely in boxes during rest of the year. 

The decorations has an old Catolic style because I like that aestetic.

I made this decoration long ago with scraps. The backround are a scrap piece from the wall paper in my former house. The little text means pastime.

Coffe break at university

Regarding my last post. I hope you didn't think Im ridiculous, I only relate to myself. I have aged these last years visibly (and on the inside) and I have wrinkles that force me to change how I do my makeup. Make up can infact make you look much older if you do it wrong.

I made a post about old buildings in Falun a few weeks ago. This time I would like to show you our newest.  We got a new library at the University.  I'm usually not fond of modern things and I think the building is hideous on the outside, a yellow box wrapped in a steel fence. But the inside is wonderful. The main hall is built like a swirl down to the center bottom, all the shelves/walls,  floors and stairs turns in a downward spiral. White walls and ceiling windows make it so light it almost hurt the eyes (Swedes are very fond of white interiors). It was nice to sit by the bookshelves and having a coffee and an easter cupcake.

We will stay at home this weekend and I will take care of my seedlings and the garden. What are you up to this weekend? I Wishing you all a nice easter.

Rescheduled bithday party

It was long ago my youngest boy turned 9. A stomach flu came in between his birthday party. This saturday was a perfect day for a kids party though and he invited a few friends and a bunch of cousins. I decided to do a treasure hunt in easter theme.

I made candy bags with a "skvader" (a winged hare) and an egg. "Godis" means candy and "Glad påsk" means Happy Easter.

Our Halloween doorbell was changed to a dorky easter themed doorbell with moving objects and Willy Wonka song. Click on video below.

Alfons made a soo delicious layer cake. Chokolate cake with chocolate ganache and rasberrie cream in the layers.

The weather was perfect for egg hunting in the garden and some barbecue.

 Sunday was perfect for some work in the garden so I took care of the rasberrie hedge, clipping off the old branches. The evening was so lovely that I was late with the dinner. Cutting salad in a hurry was a stupid thing to do, I also cut off a piece of my finger. But I stayed calm, trew threw salad + fingertip away and instructed Oskar how to cook and begged him to call Johan home to take me to the hospital. 

Now Im lefthanded and unable to write sew, work in the garden etc. So unnecessary :(

April showers

I decided to participate in The Curious Professor Z's monthly home assignment this time. Mostly because I don't have much to say right now. 

When she announced the theme we had a marvellous weather a lovely warm sun melting away the snow in several weeks, not very easy to come up with a rainy post. But the typical unreliable April weather arrived with snow/wind/rain/sun...whatever.

As I took these pictures I saw others taken a few miles away at snow caos on the roads. At home the rain was pouring slowly down. 

The easter feathers at the bunny's pasture is hanging wet and moody. 

By the way, I'm sad to announce that the other bunny had to be taken away. We only had him 2 months until I found his condition was so bad that his life was a pain :(. His gnawing teeth was gone and he had problem with his back.

This is another ugly picture of how our garden looks right now. A melting pile of snow with a plastic chair seemingly hovering over it. I have tried to remove it but it's stuck in the ice.

I think this jacket is lovely. It's not water resistant but wind. I wish I could afford it though. The more I think of it, the more I know I need new otdoor clothes

Tomorrow I have something fantastic to look forward to. Something I have wanted to do for so long time. Going to see a performance of Cirkus Cirkör. This circus is animal free and they always show innovative and artful acrobatics.

Easter parade

 I was late with the easter decorations this year. But since I don't overdo it, it doesn't take much time.
I reused the twigs from halloween to put hen feathers, decorated eggs and crosses in it. This kind of decorations is very common in sweden but they use fresh budding twigs and colourful decorations instead.

The tradition with these twigs is an old reminder of Jesus suffering at the cross, when family members whipped each others during the lent. Today this sounds so weird and domestic violence is illegal, the twigs are used as decorations.

My zinc cones are filled with tiny yellow flowers.

 Oskar has made the towel hanger at school.

Even if the snow is still laying on the ground the sun is warm enought to let us sit on the porch to eat lunch or a short coffee brake (fika).

The cage is decorated with a LED-candle, twigs, feathers and misc eggs.

 I'm recovering from a stomach flu that hit the whole family. It came so inconvenient. We were supposed to selebrate Alfons 9th birthday this weekend with his friends and a treasure hunt, but it's not possible in these conditions :(. 

A good medicine for stomach flu is to carefully sip coca cola mixed with water.

It's so lovely to have the friday off, it's a lazy day for all of us. I'm doing the thing I love most, create. I haven't done any special easter decorations for the home this year. I have lovely french/catolic style decorations but I didn't use them this year. 

This is what I served the family for breakfast this morning. Hippie coloured eggs. They are so easy to make. Wrapp a boiled egg (best result with warm eggs) in tissue paper just one or two layers. Dip the egg in a mix of white vinegar and water. Put the egg on a tray and pour food colours in patterns over the egg. Let it soak for a while and unwrap the egg and let it dry. 

Det är så underbart att ha fredagsledigt, vi bara latar oss allihop. Jag håller på med sånt jag gillar bäst, pysslar. Jag har inte gjort några särskilda påskdekorationer i hemmet i år och inte pyntat så mycket heller. Jag har fina "fransk-lantstil" dekorationer men inte ens de är uppe. Så här såg frukost äggen ut i morse. Hippieägg. De är superenkla att göra. Slå in ägget i lite hushållspapper ett, max 2 lager. Doppa ägget i en blandning av ättika och vatten och lägg på ett fat. Häll över hushållsfärg i lite mönster och låt det stå en liten stund. Ta av pappret och låt äggen torka innan ni serverar.

M wanted to have eggs like these to hang in the easter twigs. Oh it's so hard to explain in English but if you see the picture below you can imagine. If you click on my tag; påsk, you'll see other swedish style easter decorations. You usually take fresh twigs put in water and let them sprout, but since Johan is allergic I use dead moss covered ones. These are outdoors on the porch though.

M ville ha liknande ägg fast tomma att hänga i påskriset. Eftersom Johan är allergisk så kan vi inte ha gröna kvista inomhus. Jag använder döda grenar med mossa istället. De här nedan sitter dock ute på verandan.

There is often I find it difficult to explain things in English. My language have so many word describing situations or relations in a very easy way. Yesterday I read a blogpost that describes this dilemma right on spot. It's an american woman that moved to Sweden 1½ year ago. Another post she wrote was so funny because it describes so well how Swedes are in common.


Ofta när jag skriver på bloggen så är det så svårt att beskriva saker på engelska. Svenska har ju massor med ord som beskriver företeelser och relationer på ett enkelt sätt. Igår läste jag ett fantastiskt blogginlägg som beskriver dilemmat på pricken. Det är en amerikansk kvinna som flyttade till sverige för 1½ år sedan. Ett annat inlägg var så himla kul att läsa för hon beskrev hur vi svenskar är i gemen.

...ner som en pannkaka

I really thought I had made it and escaped the stomach flu, but Oskar did infected me. It took whole 6 days of incubation before I got sick. Yesterday was spent in bed with nasty stomach ache and today I'm totally off. I don't feel very fresh when I see my face in the mirror but my hands that I see all the time have nice painted nails. :)

Jag trodde att jag skulle klara mig från magsjukan men Oskar smittade mig. Hela 6 dagar tog det innan jag själv blev sjuk. Igår låg jag nedbäddad med jätteont i magen och idag är jag helt slut. Jag känner mig inte jättefräsch precis när jag ser mig i spegeln. Men händerna som jag ser hela tiden har i alla fall fina målade naglar :).

In just a couple of week easter arrives. My bunny got a pink ribbon around the neck and the hall talbe a new cloth.

Om ett par veckor är det påsk. Haren har fått en färggrann rosett om halsen och spegelbordet har fått ny duk.

I sincerely hope that I will avoid more diseases or sick children. The energy has been too low far too long now, it should have arrived by the spring light. I hope that my easter vacation will give me a dose of sparkling energy, as we will go for a little roadtrip with concerts, I long for it!


Jag hoppas verkligen att jag ska slippa fler åkommor o sjuka barn. Energin har legat på sparlåga alldeles för länge nu, den borde ha kommit med vårljuset. Jag hoppas att mitt påsklov kommer att råda bot på detta, då ska vi åka på en liten musikalisk roadtrip, som jag längtar!!

So I thought I would continue to show what I bought for Johan's money on our flea round. I found two wall sconces for the hallway. They have a very golden colour so I'm thinking of tone them down in some way, until I find out what to do, they are up on the wall on each side of the mirror.

Nu tänkte jag visa lite mer av vad jag shoppade för Johans pengar på våran loppisrunda. Jag hittade två vägglampetter till hallen. De är väldigt guldiga så jag funderar på hur jag ska tona ner dem. Tills dess får de i allafall hänga framme på var sida om hallspegeln.

This table cloth is quite old, from the beginning of the last century I think. It is silk embroderies on wool cloth.

Den lilla löparen är ganska gammal, jag gissar från förra sekelskiftet. Den är broderad med silke på yllefilt.

The sallow in our garden got tiny little bunny tails on their twigs. I couldn't resist to pick some of them and put in a vase.
I've been at home a few days with sick kids and one of them got the stomach flu. I just counting the days until my first puke. I hope I wont be on a unconvenient place at that time.


Säljen har fått småpuffar på sina grenar. Jag kunde inte låta bli att klippa några grenar från trädet på gården och stoppa i vas. Jag har varit hemma ett par dar nu med sjuka barn varav ett har magsjuka. Så nu räknar jag bara ner till första spyan och håller tummarna att jag inte ska vara på någon olämplig plats när den tiden är inne.

Pyssel men ej av mig

Man kan ju faktiskt undra om det är någon som bryr sig och överhuvudtaget sitter vid datorn dessa underbara dagar. Nej, tänkte väl det. Inte jag heller (om man bortser från nu) jag är ute och jobbar i trädgården, jag håller på att anlägga en stor perennrabatt, lite sådär vräkig ska den va. Men idag tänkte jag visa pyssel som min sambo har gjort. Om ni tittar på bilden nedan så ser ni en vit träkloss med en stor spelkula på. Inget märkvärdig vid första anblicken kanske. Den står i Tulis rum och spelkulan är en "glasskulptur".

Well is it anybody who bothers to sit by the computor these lovely spring days? No I don't (except for now). I prefer being outside in the garden and work on a huge flowerbed. But I would like to show something my man have made. If you look at the picture below you see a white cube with a glass ball on top. Nothing peculiar by the first look maybe. It is in Tulis room with his glass ball like an sculpture.

Det är på natten det händer. Glaskulan glöder och ändrar färg om och om igen natten igenom, grönt, rött, gult, blått, rosa... osv. Ibland ställer Tuli en liten spelkula ovanpå eller sin glasuggla. Inuti kuben sitter ett kretskort och en rgb diod som ändrar färg. Det är den perfekta nattlampan för ett barn.

It is at night things happen. The glass ball is glowing and changing colours over and over again red, green, blue, pink etc. Sometimes Tuli puts a small ball on top or his glass owl. Inside the cube is a pcb with rgb diode that changes colour. It is the perfect night lamp for a child.

 Och även en lampa för exclusiva glasskulpturer eller en kristallskål eller , ja vad som helst som släpper igenom ljus. Johan har gjort ett par till våra glasskulpturer också, två likadana ägg. Vänta nu! Skulle det inte var det jag visar istället, påsk o allt....Ja sådär. Med en proffsfotograf (inte jag) en proffsig kamera så får ni den enda påskdekoration jag kan bjuda på denna påsk.

Or maybe a lamp for your exclusive glass sculpture or simply a crystal bowl or ....well anything that can let light shine thru. He have made a pair for our glass sculptures as well, two similar glass eggs. Wait shouldnt I show you those instead, Easter and all? Hang on a bit. With a proffessional photografer (not me) and a proffessional camera...This is the only easter decoration I can give you.
